After the Game Reserve, we went back to the school to have a meeting with the students who will be traveling on the Malaria Campaign with us. Tommie went over the important information with them, telling them what to expect for each day and the sleeping arrangements. He gave us a chance to speak to the students about our expectations. We didn't really know what to say because we are outsiders and have never done this before, but we reminded them to be smart and to represent their school well, just like we would tell our own students. We also gave each student a "Burbank Blue Crew" T-shirt for all of us to wear while we are on the campaign.
Next, we went with Tommie to have some lunch at The Braai Place. Braai is an Afrikaans word that means "grilled meat." We each had a steak and some pap, which is a southern African staple. Pap is very plain, and it is the equivalent of white rice in Japan because it is served with almost every meal. It doesn't really have any flavor, so its best to dip it in some sauce or to eat it with a piece of the meat.
We were very tired at this point, so we went back to the hotel to rest, read our books, order room service, and go to bed.
