One Last Message from Africa

Thursday, August 5, 2010

Our bags are packed, our bellies are full, and our wallets are EMPTY! We checked out of the hotel this morning and did some last-minute shopping in the city.

We made a quick stop for a Bloody Mary at the Old Biscuit Mill, which is now converted into a little shopping center. Then we went to an area called St. George's Mall, where there are many street vendors selling crafts, vuvzelas, and other World Cup gear. After buying our final souvenirs, we had lunch at Nando's--our favorite African (it's actually Portuguese) fast food restaurant.

We made one final walk down Long Street, back to our hotel. Now we're just killing some time, checking emails and Facebook, while we wait for our taxi to the airport.

The past four weeks have been such an amazing experience for both of us, full of wonderful people, food, and memories. We hope our friends and family have enjoyed reading this blog as much as we have enjoyed sharing our journey. We are scheduled to leave Cape Town Thursday afternoon and to arrive in Los Angeles on Friday evening. We are praying that we have uneventful flights and that there is no drama to deal with, unlike our flights coming to Africa. Although we will miss Africa and our new friends here, we are both looking forward to seeing our old friends and our families, as well as sleeping in our own beds.

So long Africa! We hope to see you again some day.

  1. It's been an amazing trip for us to experience with you as well. Thank you both so much for all your time spent documenting all your adventures in this blog. It was wonderful.

You should include a note in your final posting that asks everyone who has been following your blog to write a comment so that you know who has been reading it.
